Biography

J.E.  (Jim) Gibson

Jim Gibson is President of the Carolina Quality Institute. The institute helps organizations improve and prosper by providing a broad range of leadership and process driven quality improvement training and technical expertise.

Prior to founding the institute in 1994, Jim led quality and design organizations in high commitment team environments at Black and Decker and Cummins Engine Company for 20 years. Jim was Total Quality Process Manager at Black and Decker-North American Power Tools Group, where he worked with the team that developed and implemented the Black and Decker Total Quality Process. Jim’s Cummins experience includes positions as Manufacturing Engineer, Application Engineer, Chief Engineer and Director of Reliability. Prior to his work in team environments, he spent 5 years in manufacturing and design in the aerospace and automotive industries.

In addition to being an Examiner for the North Carolina Quality Leadership Award for three years, he has served on: The North Carolina State Task Force to apply Total Quality Management to State Government, The North Carolina Quality Leadership award – Awards Council. Jim has also served as Past Chairman of Sandhills Section of American Society of Quality Control, Past Chairman of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and as an Advisor for the North Carolina Quality Center. Jim has earned two “Order of the Long Leaf Pine Awards” from Governor James B Hunt Jr. for public service in promoting quality in the State of North Carolina.

Jim holds a BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana and Masters in Management Science from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.
